Hair Extension System
THE HAIR...
Human hair is the best hair to use for hair extensions because you can straighten, blow dry,
and style it just like your own hair.
Remi hair means the hair
extension follicles all point in the same direction, creating a sleeker look and
preventing tangling. Non-Remi hair quickly loses it's sleek shiny look and becomes tangled- the hair shafts face opposite ways and rub against each other.
Not Great Hair - Asian Hair (unless you are Asian)
This hair is a course hair strand and grows naturally very dark and very straight. Use it if you are Asian and you do not color your hair and you want the sleek, dark look.
OK Hair - European Quality Hair/Indian Hair
This is basically NOT European Hair but is the best of the Asian, Pakistani, Indian hair. Can be unsuitable to use in Caucasian hair due to its thickness. This is what most hair extension artists use in New Zealand and the kind of hair that is available on TradeMe.
Good Hair - European Hair
This hair mostly comes from southern Italy and Spain and usually is grown very dark. It is durable and looks great and it will last up to a year if cared for properly. All European hair above starts off very dark then it is re-tinted to all the shades available.
Be Beautiful Hair Extensions is a unique business because we use 1 gram strands of 22" European Remi Human Hair extensions.I have truly never seen such beautiful hair and everyday I am thrilled with how it looks with my own hair.
I try to provide the best service to clients by stocking a range of 18 natural colours, unlike other hair extension services that stock just 5-6 popular colours. Due to high demand for my product, I do not always carry all colours in stock. However during your consultation I will determine your perfect shade using my sample kit, and if I do not have enough of your colour in stock I can place a custom order with my supplier that will arrive within two days.
For most people, 100 strands will be sufficient. However this
will depend on your own hair and what look you are wanting to
achieve. If you are wanting the full 22" length you will require more
strands to achieve a thicker effect. If you hair is very thick or you
have a bob cut, more strands will be required.
This can be discussed during your free consultation where I can make an estimate based on your hair type and the look you want to achieve. There is no "magic number" of strands you need; for example I have baby fine hair,
and my hair looks great with as little as 80 strands, however I can fit
up to 160 strands on my head. It is a personal choice depending on what hairstyle you are after. I wear around 100 strands myself, I find more is not necessarily better as it equals more styling time for me. I find the installation of 100 strands is
a comfortable start for a first time client. It is an introduction
to wearing and caring for hair extensions and they still look great.
INSTALLATION METHOD...
We offer a choice of two installation methods for your extensions, either the Fusion method or the micro ring system. Our hair extension artist can demonstrate both methods to you and discuss what option best fits your hair and lifestyle
The Fusion method involves bonding the hair extension directly to your hair by the application of heat to a keratin bond. Keratin is the same protein that makes up your hair, therefore is non-damaging. It is a more discrete and permanent method.
Once your extensions are installed, they will need to be looked after carefully to ensure they stay beautiful. Full care instructions are available overleaf
The micro ring system attaches the extension to your hair by placing the hair extension alongside a small section of your hair, then clamping a small metal ring around them both. It can be more visible, however it is very easy to remove.
MAINTENANCE...
After 3-6 months, depending on your hair growth, your hair extensions would have grown down your head, becoming more visible and making styling difficult. They will need to relifted, by removing them from your hair and reinstalling them, applying new bonds. If your hair extensions have been extensively layered or are damaged, a few new strands may be needed to be added. Please don't hesitate to book a free consultation to discuss your relift.
A word of warning...
Overseas studies have shown hair extensions can cause the rare
condition of traction alopecia- a condition in which constant tension
on the hair causes damage to the hair folicles themselves. Early stages
are reversable, but, left untreated, the damage to your hair can be
permanent. It was first documented in countries in which women wore
their hair in tight buns or in braids, but now is seen in women who
wear tight swimming caps regularly, tight ponytails or braids, and hair
extensions. Strangely, this has never even been mentioned in my
experience with the NZ hair industry, or on many hair extension
websites. I mention this because I want my clients to make an informed
decision. Any type of hair extension or even ponytails can cause
traction alopecia. If you catch the signs early you can remove the
extensions with no long term damage to your hair. Signs include red,
inflamed, itchy scalp, hair breakage, and tension headaches. So if
deciding to get hair extensions of any kind please note the associated
risk and be vigilant.
